Total Fire Ban Days

On Total Fire Ban days, you cannot light, maintain, or use a fire in the open air. This includes:

  • Campfires and solid fuel barbecues
  • Burning off or incinerators
  • Welding, grinding, or soldering outdoors
  • Some gas barbecues in certain circumstances

Penalties for breaching fire restrictions are severe and include significant fines and potential imprisonment.

Before Lighting a Fire

  • Check if fires are permitted on the current fire danger rating
  • Use designated fire pits where provided
  • Clear the area around the fire pit of flammable materials
  • Have water or a rake nearby to extinguish the fire
  • Never leave a fire unattended

Extinguishing Your Fire

  • Allow firewood to burn down to ash if possible
  • Pour water on the fire and stir the ashes
  • Pour more water and feel for heat with the back of your hand
  • Repeat until there is no heat
